Reviving a Local Gem: St. Helena Cyclery Reopens Under New Ownership
The St. Helena Cyclery in California’s Napa Valley reopened after a brief closure. It was sold to Trek in 2022 by Jake Scheideman, who owned it for 45 years. When Trek closed the St. Helena location in June 2024, Scheideman saw a chance to bring it back to the community.
Scheideman bought the shop’s assets and inventory. He worked with Trek to restart the computer systems and infrastructure. The shop reopened on August 1, 2024, as a Trek dealer. It will also sell high-end brands like Pinarello for road bikes, with mountain bikes still to be decided.
The reopening comes as the Calistoga–St. Helena segment of the Napa Valley Vine Trail is finishing. This 47-mile path is for pedestrians and cyclists, connecting Calistoga to the Vallejo Ferry Terminal. Scheideman, involved with the trail since the start, is hopeful about the shop’s future. He believes the trail will attract more cyclists and outdoor lovers.
